Join the MPL Teen Performance Poetry and Spoken Word Showcase and show off your talent for bringing words, stories and poems to life during this open-mic showcase. Help us celebrate the end of poetry month and "rap" up our Poetry Contest as we announce the winners and share their poems at this event!

The deadline for entry in the teen poetry contest is one week away, enter now!

Do you have a way with words? Milwaukee youth ages 10-18 are encouraged to submit a poem with an entry form to compete in this year's Poetry Contest! Submit up to two poems between March 26 and April 26. Poems must be submitted online.

Prizes will be awarded to top poems in three age categories: 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18. Winners will be announced at the Teen Performance Poetry and Spoken Word Showcase at Villard Square Branch on Tuesday, May 15, 6-7:30 p.m. and may be published on the MPL webpage and Facebook pages!

Manga Drawing Contest Winners

YA Manga.gifMilwaukee's Manga fans have voted! The Bay View Library hosted a very successful Manga & Anime Night event on November 19th. This popular program was sponsored by the Teen Advisory Board of the Milwaukee Public Library and the Helen Bader Foundation.Over 57 talented teens submitted entries to many of the Neighborhood libraries and Central. A judging panel and the participants had the difficult task of picking six winners comprising the Judge's Choices and the People's Choice. To explore more on this topic, the CountyCat catalog has many entries on this popular type of Japanese art.

Calling All Milwaukee Teens!

Looking for a great way to meet new people, gain leadership skills, and earn volunteer hours? Join the Milwaukee Public Library Teen Advisory Board!

As part of TAB, you'll participate in monthly meetings where you will help shape library services for teens. TAB plans monthly teen forums and outreach programs to connect area teens with all the library has to offer. You will gain excellent experience for your resume, develop teamwork skills, and have fun!

To sign up for this great opportunity, head to your local library or sign-up online. Applications are due by Sunday, August 31.
