August Derleth: a centennial celebration

Join MPL for the latest program in the Richard E. and Lucile Krug Rare Books Room Educational Series. On Saturday, February 28th at 2:00 p.m. in Central Library's Rare Books Room, we will be celebrating the life and work of August Derleth with speaker David Schweitzer.

Born in Sauk City, Wisconsin in 1909, Derleth became a prolific author of hundreds of poems, short stories, novels, and biographies. In 1937, he and Donald Wandrei founded Arkham House, a publishing company that specializes in mystery and occult titles, including the works of their friend H.P. Lovecraft.

On February 28, David Schweitzer will interpret Derleth's keenly observed and beautifully written meditations on the natural world. Derleth family members and friends will be present and an exhibit of books by Arkham House authors will be displayed.

This event is free, but seating is limited. Call 286-3071 to register.
