Because of popular demand, the Central Library's Art, Music & Recreation Department is reprising its extremely well-attended Increase Lapham program this September.
Once again, this program will feature the portrayal of Increase Lapham by historian Rob Nurre. A true renaissance man, Increase Lapham was involved in many facets of life in Milwaukee and Wisconsin. He wrote the first book published in the state, and created many Wisconsin and Milwaukee maps which assisted immigrant in learning about their new home. Lapham guided the creation of school libraries, helped form the Milwaukee Young Men's Association, was a founder of the National Weather Service, and served as Wisconsin State Geologist.
The program is Saturday, September 12th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in the Rare Books Room. Seating is limited, so call the Art, Music & Recreation Department at (414) 286-3071 to register.
Don't forget to check out the exhibit of artifacts by and related to Lapham in the Rare Books Room windows.
