Lady Sings the Birthday Blues

Billie Holiday.jpgApril 7th marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of Billie Holiday, considered by many to have been the greatest jazz singer ever recorded. She was born Eleanora Fagan in 1915, and despite having had no formal musical training, developed a sophisticated, evocative style, well suited to such songs as "God Bless the Child" and "Strange Fruit." To find out more about the fabulous Lady Day, come to the Milwaukee Public Library.
