ALA logo.gifOn October 6, 1876 during the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the American Library Association was created. ALA's mission is to improve the quality and effectiveness of libraries. It aims to make libraries accessible to everyone, to improve professional standards in the field of librarianship and to promote the distribution of books and other materials without censorship.
