A special exhibit in the Richard E. and Lucile Krug Rare Books Room display window highlights the library's rare books about Chinese art and travel, including several first-person travel books and the 1850's record of an American naval expedition to China. The display also feature a facsimile edition of Chinese colored woodcuts dating back to the Ming Dynasty and preserved by the Shih Chu Studio, as well as the beautifully bound oversize set Oriental Ceramic Art.
Another display in the second floor hallway offers glimpses of Milwaukee's local Chinese community which dates backs to the 1880's. In the Humanities department are materials from the Florence Hays archive. Hays was a Wisconsin librarian who worked in China from 1922-26. On display are artifacts, photos and journals from her travels throughout the country during that time.
