June 14 is Flag Day!

BirthofOld Glory.jpg

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design of the national flag. The original flag consisted of thirteen stars and thirteen stripes representing our Founding colonies. It was President Woodrow Wilson who issued the first presidential proclamation establishing national Flag Day in 1916 and President Harry Truman in 1949 who signed legislation designating Flag Day as June 14 . The legislation also required an annual presidential proclamation. Read the 2011 presidential proclamation issued by President Obama here.
