Join us this Saturday, November 5th, for a look at Milwaukee's WPA Handicrafts Project in Novel, Necessary and Nourishing. The program is part of the Richard E. and Lucile Krug Rare Books Room Educational Series. Museum of Wisconsin Art Assistant Director Graeme Reid returns to discuss the WPA Milwaukee Handicraft Project which provided employment and creative opportunity to hundreds of Milwaukeeans from 1935 to the early 1940s. As a city with a strong manufacturing base, the Depression hit Milwaukee hard. Creative minds found ways to provide quality work experiences for residents that were used as models nationwide. Original sample books of textiles, drawings and more will be on display.

Graeme Reid has 17 years of experience in arts management/curatorial work. An experienced judge on a local, regional and national level and award-winning writer on the arts, he has taught art history and the humanities at Indiana State University and Purdue University and is a regular guest lecturer at various Wisconsin institutions.
