By evoking the times, places, and forces that shaped Obama's personality and life choices, Maraniss rovides the fullest portrayal to date of the man and the politician.

David Maraniss's previous works include First in His Class: A Biography of Bill Clinton, praised by Gary Wills as "the best biography ever written about a president in office." Maraniss's study of the Vietnam War, They Marched into Sunlight: War and Peace, Vietnam and America, October 1967, was called a "must-read nonfiction book" by Maureen Corrigan on National Public Radio.Maraniss has also written acclaimed biographies of Vince Lombardi and Roberto Clemente.

Spring Literary Lucheon Featuring Chad Harbach

artofielding.jpgThe Friends of Milwaukee Public Library welcomes Chad Harbach, best-selling author of The Art of Fielding, to the 2012 Spring Literary Luncheon. The Art of Fielding was listed as one of the best ten books of 2011 by The New York Times.

The lucheon will be held on May 4 at the Wisconsin Club, 900 W. Wisconsin Avenue. Book sales, book signing and a raffle will begin at 11 a.m. followed by lunch and program at noon. Proceeds benefit the Milwaukee Public Library.

Hobby & Cookbook Used Book Sale

Need a little inspiration to occupy the months of winter? Stop by the Friend's of Milwaukee Public Library Hobby & Cookbook Used Book Sale on February 4 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Books are availabe starting at $1.00, and all proceeds will go to the Milwaukee Public Library.
This event will be held at the Milwaukee Public Market, located at 400 N. Water St. Parking is adjacent to the building. Friends members may enter the sale 30 minutes before the general public with current membership card.
Browse the selection of books, check out the offerings of various food vedors offering unique and locally made goods, and perhaps come away with inspiration for that night's dinner!

Half price book sale @ the Bookseller

The Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library will be holding a special used book sale this week. Everything will be half off, with the exception of premium-priced items. The event will take place at the Central Library Bookseller Used Book Store on Friday June 4th and Saturday June 5th, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day.
