Children's and Holiday Book Sale This Saturday @ Central

Friends members may enter sales 30 minutes before the general public with a current membership card. Please use the 8th Street entrance and present your card. This book sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library. Proceeds from sales benefit Milwaukee Public Library.

Meet Author David Maraniss at Centennial Hall this Wednesday!

maraniss.jpgDavid Maraniss, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and critically acclaimed biographer of Bill Clinton, will talk about his ground-breaking biography Barack Obama: The Story, a sweeping, multigenerational portrait of the 44th President of the United States. By evoking the times, places, and forces that shaped Obama's personality and life choices, Maraniss rovides the fullest portrayal to date of the man and the politician.

David Maraniss's previous works include First in His Class: A Biography of Bill Clinton, praised by Gary Wills as "the best biography ever written about a president in office." Maraniss's study of the Vietnam War, They Marched into Sunlight: War and Peace, Vietnam and America, October 1967, was called a "must-read nonfiction book" by Maureen Corrigan on National Public Radio.Maraniss has also written acclaimed biographies of Vince Lombardi and Roberto Clemente.

Spring Literary Lucheon Featuring Chad Harbach

artofielding.jpgThe Friends of Milwaukee Public Library welcomes Chad Harbach, best-selling author of The Art of Fielding, to the 2012 Spring Literary Luncheon. The Art of Fielding was listed as one of the best ten books of 2011 by The New York Times.

The lucheon will be held on May 4 at the Wisconsin Club, 900 W. Wisconsin Avenue. Book sales, book signing and a raffle will begin at 11 a.m. followed by lunch and program at noon. Proceeds benefit the Milwaukee Public Library.

Hobby & Cookbook Used Book Sale

Need a little inspiration to occupy the months of winter? Stop by the Friend's of Milwaukee Public Library Hobby & Cookbook Used Book Sale on February 4 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Books are availabe starting at $1.00, and all proceeds will go to the Milwaukee Public Library.
This event will be held at the Milwaukee Public Market, located at 400 N. Water St. Parking is adjacent to the building. Friends members may enter the sale 30 minutes before the general public with current membership card.
Browse the selection of books, check out the offerings of various food vedors offering unique and locally made goods, and perhaps come away with inspiration for that night's dinner!

Half price book sale @ the Bookseller

The Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library will be holding a special used book sale this week. Everything will be half off, with the exception of premium-priced items. The event will take place at the Central Library Bookseller Used Book Store on Friday June 4th and Saturday June 5th, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day.

First used book sale of the year!

The first used booksale of the year will be taking place Saturday, February 6th from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Central Library.

This sale features romance novels and cookbooks. So stock up on those romantic reads, or pick something up to cook your way into the heart of a loved one, just in time for Valentine's Day!

The Third Ward's Public Market will soon be home to a new mobile MPL Friends used book sale. Used children's books, cookbooks, fiction and non-fiction will be scattered throughout the market and available for daily sale for the bargain price of $1.

10 Cent Sale

The Friends are sponsoring a 10-cent used book sale on Saturday, September 19 at Central Library from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All proceeds from this sale benefit the Milwaukee Public Library. Friends of MPL can present their membership card for entrance to preview the sale at 8:30 a.m. before the general public.

Friends Used Book Sale in Bay View

The Friends will hold their next used book sale on Saturday July 11 at Bay View Library, 2566 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. All proceeds benefit the Milwaukee Public Library. Friends members can shop early (beginning at 9:30am) with a valid membership card.

Note: This sale occurs during the annual South Shore Frolics parade on S. Kinnickinnic, which begins at 11:00 a.m. Please plan your travel route accordingly.

Hot New $2 Friends Eco-Totes Are The Rage, Dahling!

The Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library is our advocate and a separate 501(c)3 organization with its own board of directors. They recently supported Milwaukee Public Library neighborhood branches with 17 grant awards to enhance collection development with popular, high demand items throughout the library system.

Show your support for the Friends and MPL with the purchase of a hat, shirt, coffee mug or other items available for sale through CafePress. For each purchase you make, a percentage will go to the Friends of MPL.
